Because #B07D62 deserves better than “kind of brownish”
Most brand colour palettes stop at a HEX code. Useful for designers, less useful for everyone else. A colour with a name is easier to remember, easier to discuss, and adds a little personality to an otherwise technical specification.
Swatch & Tell does one simple thing: give any colour a name. Enter a HEX value or pick a colour using the colour picker, and the tool generates a descriptive name inspired by the character, mood, and feel of the colour itself.
Whether you're building a brand identity, creating a design system, documenting a product palette, or simply settling an office debate about what colour something actually is — a good name can make a colour feel intentional. A swatch is more memorable when it has a story attached to it.
I'm not colour blind myself, but I appreciated the thinking behind this tool and wanted to share it here. It's a simple solution to a surprisingly common branding problem.
A note of thanks
Many thanks to Chirag Mehta for building and openly sharing the Name that Color library that powers this tool — open-sourced under Creative Commons and quietly useful since 2007.
